When students come to us

  • Standard GCSE methods are secure, but extension questions combine several of them at once.
  • Longer algebra loses accuracy part-way through.
  • It isn’t clear which method a multi-step question is asking for.
How we teach Extended Maths

Secure the foundations, then extend them.

01

First make sure the underlying GCSE mathematics is automatic.

02

Then introduce the extension idea with a fully explained example.

03

Compare different methods where more than one route is valid.

04

Finish with multi-step questions where the student has to decide which method applies without being told.

Questions parents ask

Can you help if my child doesn’t know exactly what they are struggling with?

Yes. The first step is often identifying the gap. We can use recent school work, tests or questions during the lesson to work out what is secure and what needs attention.

Do you set homework?

Homework can be set through the Yunalo portal to reinforce the work covered in lessons. Submitted work can be marked with feedback so the next lesson can respond to any remaining gaps.

Can you prepare for a particular school test?

Yes. If you send the topic list or relevant specification content, the lesson can be built around the material the student is actually being tested on.

Can parents see progress?

Parents can see lesson feedback, parent notes, homework and recorded progress through the Yunalo portal.
