GCSE physics tutoring

Most physics marks are lost to three things: rearranging an equation wrongly, getting units wrong, and describing an experiment vaguely. None of them are about whether you understand physics.

Who this is for

  • Year 10 and 11 students taking Combined Science or Separate Physics
  • Students who understand the concepts but lose marks in calculations
  • Students who find the maths in physics harder than maths itself
  • Anyone weak on describing experiments

What we cover

  • Forces, motion, moments and momentum
  • Energy, work, power and efficiency
  • Electricity — circuits, resistance, mains and safety
  • Waves, light, sound and the electromagnetic spectrum
  • Magnetism, electromagnetism and the motor effect
  • Radioactivity, atomic structure and space

Where marks actually go

The same few things cost most students most of their marks. These are the ones we attack first.

Rearranging formulae

Doing it under time pressure, with unfamiliar symbols, is a different skill from doing it in a maths lesson. It needs its own practice.

Units and conversions

Millimetres into metres, grams into kilograms. Easy marks, routinely dropped, and the mistake is usually invisible to the student.

Describing experiments

Examiners want a method someone else could follow. Students write a summary instead and lose most of the marks.

Significant figures

Marked strictly and rarely taught explicitly, so it is worth a lesson on its own.

Exam technique

Every calculation is written out in full — equation, substitution, answer, unit — because that is how the marks are allocated. Graph and practical questions are drilled separately, since they follow predictable patterns.

Exam boards

Edexcel IGCSE by default, with AQA and OCR GCSE also taught.

Who teaches this

Tell us the exam board and year group on the enquiry form and we will match you with whichever tutor fits best.

Sameen Chowdhury

Founder & Tutor

Maths · Biology · Chemistry · Physics · Computer Science · Spanish

Sameen founded Yunalo after he began tutoring other students during his own GCSEs. He still teaches, and he set up the way Yunalo runs — lessons written up the same day, homework tracked, progress visible to parents rather than taken on trust.

How lessons are tracked

Written up the same day

Every lesson is written up the same day. You get what we covered, what went well, and the specific thing to work on next — not a tick in a box.

Everything in one portal

Homework, lesson write-ups, past-paper scores and invoices all live in a private portal. You sign in and see the whole history, rather than hunting through messages.

Zoom, or at home in West Hampstead

Online lessons take place on Zoom, using shared whiteboards or presentations where helpful. Home-based lessons are available within West Hampstead only, by arrangement and subject to tutor availability.

Parents welcome

Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson, with no notice.

Questions parents ask

How do online lessons work?

Online lessons take place on Zoom, using shared whiteboards or presentations where helpful. Home-based lessons are available within West Hampstead only, by arrangement and subject to tutor availability.

Which year groups do you teach?

Primary (KS2) through to GCSE and IGCSE, covering years 3 to 11. That includes KS3 across years 7 to 9.

Which exam boards do you cover?

Edexcel IGCSE by default, with AQA and OCR GCSE also taught.

How long is a lesson?

Lessons can be 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1 hour 30 or 2 hours. Longer sessions can be arranged if needed.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel a lesson free of charge with at least 24 hours’ notice. For cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, 50% of the agreed lesson fee is payable. Your child’s wellbeing comes first: if your child is unwell, we will waive the cancellation charge, and we consider other genuine exceptional circumstances with understanding. This policy does not affect your statutory rights.

How does homework work?

Personalised homework is set after most lessons and handed in through the portal. It comes back with written feedback rather than just a mark, and everything stays on record so patterns are visible over time.

How do I hear how my child is doing?

Every lesson is written up the same day. You get what we covered, what went well, and the specific thing to work on next — not a tick in a box. Homework, lesson write-ups, past-paper scores and invoices all live in a private portal. You sign in and see the whole history, rather than hunting through messages.

Can I sit in on lessons?

Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson, with no notice.

Who will teach the lessons?

Whichever Yunalo tutor best fits the subject, specification and year group. Tell us those on the enquiry form and we will match you.

Looking for the right tutor?

Tell us the subject, year group and exam board, and we will take it from there.

Tutoring from £30 per hour. We’ll confirm your lesson rate before you book. Lesson feedback, parent updates, shared resources and marked homework are included.
