Further Maths tutoring

Further Maths should develop a student’s ability to manipulate mathematics confidently, not simply give them a longer list of formulas. We focus on the reasoning behind more demanding algebra and then build the speed and accuracy needed for examination questions.

When students come to us

  • Standard GCSE Maths feels comfortable but Further Maths feels much less predictable.
  • Algebra is becoming too long to hold together accurately.
  • A familiar idea is being used in a more abstract way.
  • They need challenge beyond ordinary GCSE questions.
How we teach Further Maths

Break the problem into decisions.

01

Complex questions are broken into smaller mathematical decisions: what is known, what needs to be found and which previous result unlocks the next step.

02

Where there are several valid methods, we compare them rather than forcing one memorised route.

03

We deliberately revisit prerequisite GCSE skills when they are the reason a harder topic is going wrong.

04

Once the process is understood, the student works increasingly independent multi-step questions.

What we can cover

  • Higher-level algebra
  • Functions
  • Graphs
  • Coordinate geometry
  • Sequences
  • Advanced equation solving
  • Matrices where included
  • Calculus where included
  • Non-routine problem solving
  • Exam technique

Topics differ between Further Maths specifications. We follow the one your child is studying.

Your specification

Your subject. Your exam board.

We don’t restrict ordinary subjects to one exam board. Tell us the board and specification your child is studying and lessons will be tailored to that course, its question styles and its mark schemes.

A tutor’s profile may list specifications they know particularly well. Those are areas of experience, not a limit on the exam boards Yunalo can support.

Between lessons

The lesson ends. The support doesn’t.

Yunalo keeps the work around each lesson in one place, so students know what to practise and parents can see what happens next.

Lesson feedback

What was covered, what was secure and what needs work.

Personalised homework

Set after the lesson where appropriate and linked to what the student actually needs to practise.

Marking & feedback

Submitted work can be returned with a mark and specific corrections.

Parent updates

A concise parent note after the lesson.

Progress history

Past work, feedback and results remain visible over time.

Questions parents ask

Do you teach my exam board?

Yes. Yunalo does not restrict ordinary subjects to one exam board. Tell us the board and specification when you enquire and we will tailor the lesson content and exam practice accordingly.

Can you help if my child doesn’t know exactly what they are struggling with?

Yes. The first step is often identifying the gap. We can use recent school work, tests or questions during the lesson to work out what is secure and what needs attention.

Do you set homework?

Homework can be set through the Yunalo portal to reinforce the work covered in lessons. Submitted work can be marked with feedback so the next lesson can respond to any remaining gaps.

Can you prepare for a particular school test?

Yes. If you send the topic list or relevant specification content, the lesson can be built around the material the student is actually being tested on.

Can parents see progress?

Parents can see lesson feedback, parent notes, homework and recorded progress through the Yunalo portal.

Looking for the right Further Maths tutor?

Tell us the student’s year group, current level, exam board and what they need help with. We’ll take it from there.
